Argentum Backup is a utility that can backup your files and folders to compressed .zip files.
Pros
- Small and lightweight
Cons
- Doesn’t offer anything over free backup software
The Bottom Line
Argentum is a simple utility that ultimately doesn’t offer anything over freely available software.
Backing Up
Argentum is small. Very small. Just over 1 MB, to be exact.
When first started, Argentum is set to backup:
- My Documents
- Email contacts and messages
- Windows desktop settings
You can add more, those are just the defaults.
Argentum can optionally compress backups into .zip files, with varying levels of compression.
There’s an option to specify a password. However, there doesn’t seem to be any encryption to protect it.
You can also purge old backups according to a set number of days.
Restoring
Argentum is a simple utility. Since it only copies files from one place to the other, to restore them you need to copy them back.
Support
There’s a help manual with a tutorial. There’s also a contact form on their website, which says to allow up to two business days for a response. However, when I submitted a question I wasn’t responded to at all.
Negatives
There just aren’t enough features. Argentum Backup would be much better if it were freeware.
